Friends

Boy, just when you are feeling so low that an ant couldn't crawl under you, God sends two messengers to you to lift you up.
Donna Turgeon and Lynn Smith are two of my dearest friends and they both have called on a day when I really needed to hear a friendly voice. It has been soooooo hot here lately that I was really done in. Donna and I talk fairly regularly but sometimes, I miss her call. Lynn and I haven't talked since May.
This isn't to say that others have been thinking about me. Carolyn Shoup sends me regular emails although I wish she would tell me what she is doing more often(Hint). Yesterday was particularly nice because I also got a lovely call from my Bro. There is no voice that warms the cockles more than his. We always have a good talk. I am so grateful to hear from these wonderful people. Thanks for thinking for me. And a very special thanks to my favorite commentors, Cuz, Fairy Lynn, and Ramblin' Ross. You all mean so much.

I hate July and August

I am not a fan of summer. In fact, I hate it. Heat and I just don't agree. It has been in the ninties here and with no air conditioning, it is horrible. I am sitting here with an ice pack on my head and sweat dripping down my face. There are fans going and it brings no relief at all. This might as well be AZ or TX. Yes, I hear you Ross. There is no end in sight.
I will NEVER complain about snow again.

The Snugglebug Has Another Birthday

Forgive Me, Laura. These pictures are old and I am sure you have changed some things but it is all that I have.
Today is Laura Gunn's birthday. Happy Birthday, Kiddo. Many happy returns of the day. It amazes me the number of things you have accomplished since these pictures were taken. For one thing, you have another child in your family: Grant William. Miss Lily is no longer a little girl. Now she is a young lady. Master Luke is fast approaching 3. Ok, he still has some way to go but Luke never does anything slowly. Your artwork is fantastic and your new fabric is gorgeous. I am in awe of you and so proud to be related to such a wonderful human being. I look at your blog with wonder and joy. If someone is reading this for the first time , check out Laura at http://lauragunn.typepad.com/paintinmyhair/ ......you will be glad you did. God Bless and keep you, Snugglebug.

Roads Not Taken

I sometimes wonder about the roads I didn't take. What would have happened? How different my life would have been. I don't spend alot of time doing this because it can't be changed but the thought does cross my mind.
Choices. Not always bad, not always good. Decisions made heatedly or calmly.
Interesting.

Have You Ever Noticed?

There have been weeks when I have had nothing to do at all. No one calls. I don't call anyone. Nothing happens. Then, all of a sudden, I am flooded. Today is crazy. I am going with Robin to get rocks. It is domino day. Mo has asked me to pick up Sam at daycare. and then she asked me to go with her to Harry Potter. I am delighted because it is nice to be busy but this is nuts.
I'm going to be pooped but oh so happy. Ain't life grand?

It Is What I Needed All Along

I really only know her as "Mom". She is not my mom but the mother of a dear friend, Robin Garner, and I am borrowing her once a week. We are going to get together and watch old movies.
She is a sweet lady who is beginning to forget things and hates it. She has come with Robin when she does her visiting teacher thing with Elinor each month so that is how we met. Robin needs to be able to get away occasionally and now she can. It is a joy to do something for Robin because she has done so much for us. She is literally redoing our garden and I mean stone by stone.
I spent about 4 hrs with "Mom" today and enjoyed myself completely. It is nice to be of use.
For anyone who read this morning's entry, Ellie was waiting for her friend and fell asleep on the couch. She is a nanny to two active youngsters under 2 so it is understandable. All is forgiven and hopefully will be right with the world. I still say "PHOOOEY ON ANGER".

Why Am I So Prickly?

I could chalk it up to the hot weather but I am just plain prickly. My great niece, Ellie, called and I thought she said she was coming over last night to pick up some things she had stored in our garage. I thought she said she would be there at nine but she never showed. I went to bed mad.
I know in my heart, Ellie would NEVER do anything to hurt me but I thought the worst. I now think I must have misunderstood her. I tried to call her last night but she didn't pick up her cell phone. I will have to wait until today to find out what I believe I already know. I misunderstood.
I trust Ellie with all my heart. She is a sweet and kind girl who would never cause pain to anyone.
I am an old prickley woman if there ever was one. Sorry, Ellie.
By the by, I found out two things about anger.......1) it makes you hotter......like I needed that and 2) it makes your feet cramp. My left foot has cramped twice tonight which doesn't add to my getting to sleep. Phooey on ANGER!!!!!!!!!!!

I Hate It When It's HOT!!!!!!!!

I am not a hot person. When it is sunny and 70, I am happy but 85 or 90.........FORGET IT!!! My brother, Ross, says I shouldn't complain because 85 or 90 pales to Houston, TX where it is 100 + and humid to boot. I don't care. In Houston, they have air condition and I don't have that. I am miserable when it is hot. It reminds me of my first year in Washington, DC. The only thing I had to wear was wool. I did learn to think cool thoughts but I am older now and the cool thoughts are not coming as they use to. YUCK!!!!

Happy Birthday, Tina

Today is my niece, Tina Martin's birthday. She is my brother Ross's youngest daughter and a very special gal. She lives in Texas and has three children. She has had a strange life but she is a strong woman. She has overcome many obstacles and she stands tall in my eyes. I don't get to see Tina very often and that is my loss but I do think about her and I admire her.
I wish you well today, Tina. Your courage is amazing. Well done, kiddo.

Everything's Coming Up Roses........Sort of

I feel like I am cross-eyed. It is 6:29am and I have only had three hours sleep. I have to take Elinor to the airport to catch a 8:50am flight to Lansing, MI. She has had the same amount of sleep I have but I get to go back to bed and she gets to sit on airplanes all day.
Last night, we went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince at 12:05am show. It was wild. We took the two older Fox boys, John and Thomas, with us. We picked them up at 10:30pm and drove to the movie theatre. It was a good thing we went when we did because the line was all the way around the building and that was the ticket holders. When we got in the theatre itself, the only seats were in the first three rows. I will say this, everyone was very curteous during the film but then, it was a COOOOOL FILM!!!!!!!!!!!! It was worth the wait, the lines, late hour, the little sleep. We had a ball. I would do it again for sure. John and Thomas had a great time and I am glad we took them. It made it even more fun.
I will be a mess for the rest of today and I have to play a thrilling game of Mexican Train Dominos at 1pm. Oh well........................it was still fun.

Disappointments Are Coming Out Of The Wazoo

Well, the ticket machine on the computer made an error. The tickets say tonight but actually it is tomorrow. I didn't want to call the theatre but Elinor implored(Good thing). Now I am mad and disappointed. It would have been so good if it was tonight because we could have gotten a good night's sleep. This way, we will only be able to sleep two hours because Elinor is leaving for Lansing, MI on Wednesday morning and has to be at the airport at 6:50am........UHG!!!!!!!!!!!!
My second disappointment is with my camera. I couldn't find the instruction booklet and I keep getting this message that says" busy" and it won't let me take any pictures. Canon says my buffer is full but there is no way to empty it. I don't get it.
I am one pissed pup. Phoooey!!!!!!!!!

An Adventure in the Planning

Elinor and I are going to have an adventure. We are going to see the premiere of the new Harry Potter. It is suppose to open on Wednesday which just won't fit our plans since Elinor is leaving town that morning but we heard that there is suppose to be a special airing at midnight on Tuesday. Elinor WANTS to SEE this MOVIE!!!!!!!!
I checked the schedule and what it says is that the show will be at 12:05am on the 14th which is Tuesday legally but Monday evening as far as we are concerned. So I got tickets. Elinor asked John Fox if he would like to go. Well, you can't ask John if you don't ask Thomas as well so we will be escorted by the Fox boys. What a hoot!!!!! I can't wait. My first late night movie. WAHOOOOOOOOOO!

The Fairy Tea

We had a fairy tea today. Elinor and her friend, Cherie Sue, invited about 25 ladies and their daughters to have food and do some crafts. The ladies made crowns and a fairy and painted rocks. It was a hoot. Cherie Sue made the most beautiful cake which looked like a fairy's house. It was shaped like a toadstool. I wish I had a picture but unfortunately, my camera is on the blitz. I have been having more trouble with it lately.
I don't feel comfortable using other cameras because now a days, I really get confused by them.
I miss my camera. It is just one more thing that isn't right with me.

Three Birthdays on ONE Day

We have three family birthdays today. My niece, Cindy Foster(picture on the bottom), my niece, Wendy Lane Bailey(no picture) and Sam Fox(picture on the top).
Happy Birthday, Gang!!!!!!!!
How cool is that! Sam is the only one nearby so he gets the party from us. Cindy is in Kasikstan and Wendy lives in New Jersey so someone else gets to throw their parties. I love these people. Wendy is a cabaret singer with a beautiful voice and an incredible stage presence. Cindy is gentle soul with such love in her heart she is a joy to be near. And Sam is just full of beans. Five year olds are like that. He is all boy and then some. He loves Star Wars and he'll try anything once. But how could you resist that face? Oh, well.......Happy Birthday all!!!!!!!!

Be Grateful For The Gifts God Gives

I am lucky. I can see and enjoy all the beauty of this world. I met someone today who is visionally challenged but she is definately one cool lady. Today was domino day and I went over to Carleen's house as usual. The other two regulars were there along with a new player who has joined us recently, Sue, and a new new player named Katie. Katie can make out shapes and colors but the rest is kinda hard. We taught her dominos and we all had fun. Carleen kept her eye on Katie to help and we announced what was available to play on each time. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed the game. I am glad to know Katie. She will join us next week and then she will be going to Salt Lake City to continue her education. I love it and I am grateful to have met her. Thanks, God. Point well taken.

When You're Hot You're HOT!!!!

We went to a gig today. Elinor spoke to two groups at Craft Warehouse. CW is a great place for people who love to craft. It is similar to Michael's but better(at least in our opinion).
The ladies were mostly quilters but that is ok since Elinor is a dollmaker who quilts. She told how she got started and then showed her dolls. In between, she quoted some of her poetry, made jokes, and ended with a song. It is fantastic.
I have heard her speak on many occasions but it never ceases to amaze me. She is really neat. I am very proud to be her sister. You Rock, Lady!!!!!!!!

Recognition

I think I may be growing up. A few weeks ago, at Easter, I gave our Pastor this picture. Actually, I left the picture in a paper bag on his chair in the church with a note. I told him I was glad to have him back(he had a heart attack in Dec) and I suggested he listen to a special recording of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring on Itube(or Utube......whatever it is). It's the Celtic Women. I thought it would give him a boost. I waited for several weeks for some acknowledgement but none came. I was angry because I thought I had done something nice and I wanted to be appreciated. Wrong reason for doing something for someone. This past week at Vacation Bible Camp I had the opportunity to ask him if he recieved it. He said he had received many things at that time and had put them in a file but he hadn't had time to go thru it.
I told him it was ok. I just wanted to make sure he got it. I really don't care if he ever acknowledges it or not. I am glad I did it and I am glad I don't need to know. I would do it again but for the right reasons this time.

Happy Birthday, USA

Happy Birthday, USA!!!!!! Today is the 4th of July and it is a beautiful day. It will be hot........up to 90 which is HOT for the northwest. Elinor and I are going to a community breakfast and then to the movies. We are going to see the Proposal. It should be fun.
I am glad to be living in the US. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. There may be alot of things wrong with this country but there are alot of things right. The things that are wrong can be corrected but the things that are right can not be replaced.
YOU ROCK, USA!!!!!!!!!

Fun Week

This has been a fun week. I worked at my church's Vacation Bible Camp registering kids who hadn't registered on line. It was fun to see their happy faces. The Vacation Bible Camp used a medieval theme this year with kings and queens and dragons and jesters. They had a Bible verse each day and they did a skit which demonstrated the verse. Mostly it was serving God(the King) and working together.
I only worked for about two hours but it was fun to be useful.
Elinor lent me one of her beanies which kind of looked like a crown or a jester's hat. I got a lot of complements so that was also nice. I am glad I did this.

Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary

Mistress Mary, quite contrary.......how does your garden grow?
With iris and day lilies and occasionally a violet or two.
It sure has been a year for flowers here. The roses have been spectaular but the thing that does best is the dandilion. Lord, how I hate those weeds.

Happy Birthday, Ev

She plays well with others. Whenever there is a gathering, there is Evie. People love to be near her because she is fun, loving, and gracious. She is interesting, well-read, has good opinions, deep faith. She rocks.
It is a joy to know you, Evalyn. May God bless you and keep safe and well always.
